Garden Club

NOTICE:  SOUTH DOWN GARDEN CLUB OPENS 2012 SEASON

Got arthritis?? Try a natural approach with local honey and good cinnamon. That was only one of the remedies Garden Club members heard about from Kim Moore, Herbalist at their opening meeting on April 12th.  As members sipped a special South Down Garden Club blend of herbal tea, Kim talked about the farm she and her family operate in Alton.  Natural preparations for the relief of sleeplessness, allergies, and other common conditions, as well as soaps, skincare and myriad other natural products are grown, prepared, and sold at the Moore Farm Country Store and Herb Shoppe.  Classes and a Community Market Fair are also offered.

The Garden Club members will travel to the farm for a cooking demonstration and sampling for their May 10th meeting and will depart with an Herb starter kit.

If you are new to South Down and would like to check out the Garden Club or find out about future programs, contact Martha at muff@metrocast.net or Mary Lou at mlanderson@metrocast.net and we will arrange for someone to accompany you to a meeting.

NOTE: Join us for planting on May 22nd and 29th or rain dates on May 24th or 31st.

    No Meetings

SDRA Garden Club  The SDRA Garden Club meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at the Beach House. There are no meetings January, February, and March. Persons interested in joining are welcome to attend any meetings. Meetings are social events with interesting speakers and hands-on projects - such as creating lovely arrangements, wreaths etc. for our homes. Please join us.

The first meeting will be Thursday April 12 at 6:30PM at the Beach House. We look forward to seeing many of our current members and welcome new members. Dues are $20 per year and will be collected April through June. The annual meeting and election of officers and committee members is held in June.

The Program Committee has been busy preparing for our monthly programs and we all look forward to another informative, creative, and fun season.

The Beautification Committee will be coordinating the annual plantings in our main gardens in late May. Volunteers will don their gloves and garden attire and have the South Down gardens looking beautiful in time for Memorial Day.

Our Hospitality Committee insures that we have refreshments for our meetings and set up and clean up, and generally make sure everyone has a great time.

Our Sunshine Committee keeps us informed of the well being of our members and sends cards and flowers.
