  • April 11, 2024 A Visit from Patty and Ron from Petal Pushers Farm

Many of us have turned right on Parade Road and headed over to this popular nursery to begin our spring planting for years. Owner Patty Gianunzio and General Manager Ron Palsgrove are scheduled to visit this evening and share the history of Petal Pushers Farm, explain hardiness zones and where New Hampshire fits in, and the benefits of using native plants in the garden. They have some new surprises scheduled for the coming season, and we will be the first to know! They will answer questions and provide information about upcoming Yard Sales (a new one in the spring!) as well as what changes, additions or improvements to expect this year.

  • December 2024 Annual Holiday Party - Date to be determined

Designed to appeal to those with an interest in gardening, home decorating, crafts, entertaining and/or community involvement, the South Down Home & Garden Club is a social club that provides an ideal venue for new owners to make new friends and for existing owners to gather in fellowship. Meetings are scheduled from April through December, on the second Thursday of each month, and meet at 6:30 pm down at the South Down Beach House. There are exceptions for special events, trips and the end of year Holiday Party.

There are opportunities to become involved at a committee level within the Club. Currently, the South Down Home & Garden Club (SDH&GC) is co-chaired by Alice Wolf and Sande Ambiehl. Marie Starski is the Club’s Treasurer. The Beautification Committee is headed by Gail Johnson and Janet Dome. They are tasked with decorating South Down in the Fall, putting up scarecrows, hay bales, making the entrance to our community festive and signaling a significant change of seasons.

The Sunshine Committee is headed up by Rose Hansford. Rose sees to it that if any member is in the midst of struggles through family or personal health challenges, members are able to send their best wishes and share their strength. While our 2023 year is set with programs, executives and committee chairwomen, we are in need of those interested in leadership roles for next year. Please see Alice or Sande if you have any interest.

There are nearly 60 members, although an average meeting will host 20 to 30 members. Our annual dues are $20, and cover program material costs and end of year donation to charity. Occasionally a program will require a fee for admission, in which case the Club attempts to defray part of the cost.

In whichever neighborhood you live in, most likely one of your neighbors is a member of the SDH&GC. Please reach out to speak with them to learn if you would like to join. Our Club is growing and delighted to provide a venue for fostering friendships.

If you have any interest in learning more about the South Down Home & Garden Club, or would like to add your email to upcoming announcements, please contact Alice at laconialand@msn.com or Sande Ambiehl at sandeambiehl@aol.com
